Amaravati: YSR Congress Party leader and Rajya Sabha member V Vijayasai Reddy derided the Neeru-Chettu programme envisaged by the AP Leader of the Opposition and TDP leader N Chandrababu Naidu.
Taking to the popular micro blogging site Twitter, Vijayasai Reddy said that the fraud that took place during Chandrababu’s regime was larger than the fodder scam that took place in Bihar. He also alleged that more than 22,000 crore of public funds were diverted to the Janma Bhoomi committees by the TDP during Chandrababu’s tenure. If a comprehensive investigation is conducted, the roles of Chandrababu, his son Nara Lokesh and other senior TDP leaders would be exposed, he tweeted.
Irregularities under the Neeru-Chettu programme by the TDP leaders had come to the fore many times during Chandrababu’s tenure. It is alleged that they had dug huge quantities of sand and gravel, only to make crores of rupees in the name of Neeru-Chettu. Under this programme, TDP leaders would get bills for the sand, and also for the rural employment scheme. They would show the same work to get bills from the Irrigation department in the name of river rejuvenation. It is also alleged that the TDP government had billed Neeru-Chettu program to the tune of Rs 13,859 crores. Because of this programme , it is also said to have caused extensive damage to the existing irrigation ecosystem and fostered illegal sale of sand and gravel, which in turn destroyed many rivers across the state.
