SRINAGAR: Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, who is among those placed under house arrest, has hit out at the government after Article 370 of the constitution, which grants special status to Jammu and Kashmir, was removed by a presidential order today. Terming the move “sinister”, she said the government wants to change the demography of Jammu and Kashmir.

“Today marks the darkest day in Indian democracy. Decision of J&K leadership to reject 2 nation theory in 1947 & align with India has backfired. Unilateral decision of GOI to scrap Article 370 is illegal & unconstitutional which will make India an occupational force in J&K.”

Home Minister Amit Shah’s announcement in parliament came after Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting of his cabinet at his house this morning.
