Cricket Betting Drives Borabanda Student To Suicide

A city youth, twenty one year-old Ravi Kumar of Borabanda near Vengalrao Nagar committed suicide after debts due to betting on cricket matches. Ravi, a BSc first year student, owed Rs. 40,000 to one Rajasekhar, which he managed to repay with his father’s help. Ravi’s father was forced to sell their property in order to repay the gambling debt. However, Rajasekhar harassed him for another Rs. 40,000 for the debt to be cleared. Ravi could not bear the harassment meted out to him and hanged himself to a ceiling fan in their house.

Police have registered a case and are probing the death.
