If you’re planning on flying out of Delhi by either IndiGo or SpiceJet after September 5, you will need to make sure that you arrive at correct terminal as both the airlines will be moving all or some of their operations from Terminal 2 (T2) to Terminal 3 (T3).
The Delhi airport is undertaking a revamp of T2 in order to increase its passenger-handling capabilities and so, some of the flights that currently depart from the terminal will now be departing from T3.
All SpiceJet flights that currently fly out of T2 will depart from T3 September 5 onwards. IndiGo, on the other hand, will move flights numbered 5000-5999 to Terminal 3.
These new movements come two years after Terminal 2 was reopened and some of the flights from Terminal 1 were moved there in order to carry out expansion work at the latter.
All this is part of the airport operator Delhi International Airport Limited’s grand plan to dramatically increase the Indira Gandhi International Airport’s overall capacity.
Under the plan:
The old Terminal 1D (used for departures) and Terminal 1C (used for arrivals) will be merged into a single Terminal 1.
Once Terminal 1 is ready, flights that were temporarily moved to T2 will be moved back to T1.
T2 will then be demolished and new Terminal 4 will be constructed there.
With the new developments, SpiceJet and IndiGo will be operating out of all the three terminals — T1, T2 and T3. SpiceJet’s and IndiGo’s T1 operations will remain unaffected by the new move.
