Mumbai all set to bid adieu to Ganpati Bappa on Thursday


The Ganesh Chaturthi festival will be coming to an end for this year, with Ganpati Visarjan taking place on Thursday. Mumbai is all set to bid adieu to its most loved god Ganpati Bappa.

A lot of preparations have been made by the Mumbai Police, traffic police, BMC along with the help of private organisation that will be taken to ensure peaceful Ganpati Visarjan. A special alert has been sounded for weak bridges by the BMC.

On Thursday, over 50,000 senior offices and other staff will be present on the ground. There are over 6,000 Sarvajanik Ganpati Mandals this year. Around 1 lakh household Ganpati idols will be immersed on Thursday.

The additional teams of local arms unit, SRPF, Riot Control Police, QRT, BDDS, Mumbai traffic will be deployed across the city. The cops will also be taking the help of home guard, RSP, NSS, NCC, scout guide and NGOs.

Avoiding child molestation and safety of children at crowded places will be a major concern for the Mumbai Police. Vigil will be kept with the help of over 5,000 CCTV cameras, which will be monitored live round the clock. Cops including women cops will be deployed in civil attire. Authorities have appealed to parents to take extra care of their children and not to leave them alone.

Medical centres, watch towers are also being set up. Special centres for missing people/children are available. A drone camera will also be used to monitor the situation.

Authorities have requested people not to venture into deep waters. People have also been asked to stay away from crowded bridges and wait for sometime till the crowd clears.

There are over 129 spots for Ganpati Visarjan across the city. Five of these places Girgaon Chowpatty, Juhu, Shivaji Park, Malad T Junction and Powai are very important. Around 53 roads will be closed, 56 roads will be one ways and 19 places will be no-parking spots.

There are many bridges in Mumbai which are very old and weak. The BMC has issued a separate alert for these bridges warning crowds should not gather on these bridges.

Ganpati idols should not halt on bridges and move immediately. They have asked people not to gather and dance on these bridges. Some of the weak bridges are Ghatkopar rail over bridge (ROB), Currey Road ROB, Chinchpokli ROB, Sandhast road ROB, Marine lines ROB among many other ROBs in the city and suburbs.
