Bigil audio launch row: TN Congress condemns state govt’s move for issuing notice to private college

The Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) on Wednesday condemned the Edappadi K Palanisamy-led government for issuing a notice to a popular engineering college in Chennai where the audio launch of actor Vijay’s upcoming film ‘Bigil’ took place.

The actor’s speech at the event has become a center of major controversy in the entire state.

In his speech, Vijay at the Sairam Engineering College in Chennai allegedly used political connotations that have not gone down well with the ruling AIADMK government. Vijay reportedly indirectly hit out at the state government throughout his speech.

Terming it as a political event, the state government had asked the private college on what basis such a political event was allowed to take place in an educational institution

TNCC president KS Alagiri condemned the state government’s move and asserted that it should immediately withdraw the notice since it was not a “political function”.

In a statement, the TNCC said, Actor Vijay is not associated with any political party. He is an artist who has respect and admiration of lakhs of youngsters. He did not make references to any specific political party during his speech at the audio launch. But his general statements have been perceived to be an attack on the ruling AIADMK and minister D Jayakuma.
