Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) chief Sukhbir Singh Badal was on the hit list of the terror module that carried out the September 2016 blasts in Tarn Taran of Punjab, a probe into the terror attack has revealed.
As per sources in the Punjab Police, the accused in Tarn Taran blast case were planning to eliminate former Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal in another attack in November 2016.
Accused had planned to plant a bomb during Sukhbir Singh Badal’s Amritsar visit in November 2016. The assassination plot was being planned to reportedly avenge the sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib at Bargari, sources added.
The accused blamed the Badals for the sacrilege incidents in Punjab and thus hatched the conspiracy, the probe revealed. Sukhbir Singh Badal was to visit the Golden Temple in Amritsar in November 2016.
The details emerged during the investigation of those arrested for allegedly carrying out blasts near Pandori Gola village in Tarn Taran in September 2016.
Accused Malkiat Singh Shera, revealed that kingpin Bikram Singh Panjwar planned to attack Sukhbir Singh Badal during his Golden Temple visit, Hindustan Times reported.
As per the daily, Shera told investigators that Bikram had two bombs. While he kept one with himself, he gave the other to Shera to attack Sukhbir from the temple’s main entrance.
However, when Sukhbir Singh Badal arrived at the Golden Temple with heavy security, Bikram got scared and could not throw the bomb, Shera claimed.
The Punjab Police has handed over details of the case to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), who will now carry out further investigation.
