The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is questioning former Finance Minister P Chidambaram’s son, Karti Chidambaram, in connection with the INX media case, officials said.
India Today TV has learnt that Karti Chidambaram was summoned by the probe agency to appear on Wednesday for questioning.
However, when the media asked Karti Chidambaram about the purpose of his visit, he said, “I am here to wish Dussehra to everyone.”
Former Finance Minister P Chidambaram, who is also an accused in the same case along with his son Karti, will be arrested soon by the ED.
Karti has protection from arrest in the INX media case which the ED has challenged before the high court. The investigative agency maintains that it needs custodial interrogation of Karti Chidambaram to conclude the investigation.
Karti Chidambaram has denied the allegations made by the investigative agencies that he influenced the INX media deal through his father who was the finance minister at that time.
Both the CBI and the ED have alleged that Karti Chidambaram met Indrani Mukharjee and facilitated a meeting of hers with his father P Chidambaram, to influence the INX media deal.
However, while speaking to News Agency, Karti Chidambaram rubbished the allegations by investigative agencies claiming he never met Indrani or Peter Mukherjee.
“I have never met Indrani or Peter Mukerjea ever in my life. The allegations are completely false and this is nothing but vendetta because my father [P Chidambaram] has been a vocal critic of this government,” Karti Chidambaram said.
Recently, the agencies made a sensational claim that the logbook containing details of Indrani Mukerjea’s visit to meet P Chidambaram has been destroyed.
Karti Chidambaram rubbished the claims by the agencies and wrote on Twitter: “Is the BJP government suggesting that my father destroyed the visitors’ logbook of the Ministry of Finance for a FIR of 2017? Who was in government in when the FIR was filed?”
P Chidambaram, who was arrested by the CBI on August 21, is in judicial custody at the Tihar Jail since September 5. Last year, Karti Chidambaram was also arrested by the CBI in February in connection with the INX media case.
