Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik announces slew of healthcare projects under Mo Sarkar initiative


After launching the Mo Sarkar’ initiative on October 2, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday reviewed the progress of the programme and announced infrastructure development activities for hospitals in Naxal infested Malkangiri, Nabarangpur and Koraput districts.

Naveen Patnaik also announced a grant of Rs 15 lakh to all four ‘Rogi Kalyan Samitis’ (patient welfare committees) in the state.

The announcement was made on the basis of a report from officials who toured 15 districts to follow-up on the implementation of ‘5T’ and ‘Mo Sarkar’ initiatives.

Speaking on the initiative, Naveen Patnaik said, “For Mo Sarkar, we focussed on police and health. I made 120 calls (from October 2) and the responses have been overwhelming, bed capacity for hospitals will be increased to 200. Bus services from Motu to Malkangiri will be provided daily for the benefit to people visiting the hospitals. Detailed planning has been approved for a composite hospital with 500 beds at the Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital in Koraput.”

For Malkangiri district hospitals, the CM announced construction of doctor accommodation and transit home, rest shed for attendants of patients. The hospital’s bed capacity will be increased to 200. Bus services from Motu to Malkangiri will be provided daily for the benefit of people visiting the hospital.

Motu village is in the cut-off area of Malkangiri District, where incidents of patients being carried on shoulders or cots were often reported.

Similarly for Nabarangpur district hospital, the CM said the bed strength will be increased to 200. Besides, a 200-bed new hospital will also be constructed. Rest shed for patients’ attendants will be built in the hospital premises. The government has also decided to provide three ambulances and three Mahaprayana or hearses to the hospital.

For Koraput district hospital, the Chief Minister stated that the bed strength will be increased to 250. Also, a new ward will be constructed above the existing hospital building. Staff quarters and rest shed for attendants of patients will be built on the premises of the hospital. Two new ambulances with life saving equipment will also be provided to the hospital.
