Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra played the role of a teacher for the new team of office bearers of the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) in Raebareli on Tuesday.
Priyanka, who is on a three-day visit to her mother’s parliamentary constituency Raebareli, reached the Bhuemau guest house on Tuesday afternoon to attend a training session of newly appointed office bearers of the UPCC from October 22-24.
The training session was not open for media but a senior Congress leader on the condition of anonymity said, “Today’s session lasted for more than six hours and it was led by our leader Priyanka Gandhi. The new team of office bearers was first briefed about the history of the Congress party. They were also informed in detail about the contribution made by former prime ministers Jawahar Lal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi and their vision of taking the country to new heights.”
“The state office bearers were also informed how these former PMs strengthened the party across the country and spread the party’s ideology among the masses. Later, they were also shown a short movie which highlighted the work done by the previous Congress governments in both the centre and the state,” added the senior leader.
According to another party leader, “Priyanka prominently raised the issue of deteriorating law and order situation in the state during the session. Giving an example of the party’s movement against the Yogi Adityanath government after the Sonbhadra massacre, she told the leaders that it is after the Congress party raised the voice of tribals that the state government swung into action and later decided to help the victim families. Therefore it is very important to raise voice against injustice being done anywhere in the state.”
“Priyanka also gave the example of Shahjahanpur case where the Congress party leaders prominently targeted the government and demanded strict action against former union minister Swami Chinmayanand,” added the party leader.
According to the party leader, Priyanka asked them to follow and spread the ideology of Mahatma Gandhi who always promoted peace, communal harmony and followed the path of truth.
UPCC leaders have been directed to launch a door-to-door campaign in order to highlight the failures and wrong policies of the Uttar Pradesh government. The new office bearers have also been told to raise such issues on social media as well.
“We must raise issues relevant to people in order to build a personal connection with them,” Priyanka was quoted as saying by a leader who was part of the meeting.
The training session will resume on Wednesday. On Wednesday, the newly appointed team members will also be given tips on increasing connect with the public on the ground and social media, lessons on giving media bites and doing research on important issues.
The strategy will also be made to strengthen the party’s organisation at every booth across the state ahead of the assembly polls 2022.
