Yami Gautam has grabbed headlines for disrespecting the Assamese culture and traditional wear. The actress recently dropped by Guwahati airport, where she was approached by a fan with a traditional scarf. The actress held her hands out in front of her when the fan approached to give her the scarf. Her assistant asked the man to back-off as well. Ever since the incident, the actress has been slammed and called out for disrespecting the Assamese culture and tradition.
The Kaabil actress was criticised for disrespecting the Assamese traditional garment and culture. The actress opened up on the said incident and issued a clarification on the same. Taking to her Twitter handle, Yami Gautam retweeted the video of the incident and wrote, “My reaction was simply self defense. As a woman,if I am uncomfortable with anyone getting too close to me, I or any other girl has every right to express it. I Dint’ intend to hurt anyone’s sentiments but it’s very important to voice out a behavior, inappropriate in any manner.” Have a look at her tweet here:
In her other tweet, Yami wrote, “This is my third visit to Assam.I have always expressed my love towards Assamese culture & people. It’s insensitive to react to a single-sided story & spread hate. I am present here, in this beautiful state for an important event & shall always keep coming back. Peace & Respect.”
Later, the Bala shared a picture of herself in the traditional Assamese attire from the event she attended whilst there. “Had a great time flagging off ‘Great Guwahati Marathon’ -2020 ! Was so good to see so many smiling faces & hence could feel the love ! Thank you for this beautiful ‘Japi’ & ‘Gamosa’ ❤️” she wrote alongside the image.
