No new emoji may be released in 2021 due to COVID-19 pandemic

The Unicode Consortium, the group behind emoji releases, has announced that due to coronavirus pandemic, it’s delaying the release planned for 2021 by six months. This essentially means the emoji version will likely be rolled out in 2022. However, the emoji that were announced earlier this year, including the transgender flag and Italian hand gesture, will be made available soon.
